4th Grade - Curriculum Map

This year, fourth grade students will be learning how to combine skills in order to design original projects that complement their interests. They began the year by creating a series of small artworks called "ATCs" or Artist Trading Cards.  The size of the card allowed students to quickly move through a series of skill-building exercises that explore design concepts such as Zentangle, Notan, and radial symmetry, as well as eight different watercolor techniques. Students were then asked to combine their favorite design concepts and watercolor techniques into a plan for a multi-day project of their own design. These student-designed projects are called "WOW. projects" or Wonderful Original Works of Art. Following this unit, students will work through another set of skill-building activities before combining what they have learned into the creation of W.O.W. Project #2, and so on.
