5th Grade - Gelatin Prints

Today, Mrs. Pasquan's class finished their gelatin books. We could choose between making a squash book and an accordion book. Inside of them, were gelatin prints. We made the jello ourselves. After we made the jello, we rolled a thin layer of acrylic paint on the jello, then added a mask and a little texture. When we put the book together, we added ribbon to keep it in place. It was really fun to make them.

TRY THIS AT HOME
You can use any shallow container.
We used these 25oz. containers from Stop and Shop.
You want your gelatin plate to be about 1/4 thick, so for these containers we used the following recipe:
  • 1/2 cup glycerin (you can find a small bottle at CVS or a large one online)
  • 2 tbsp unflavored gelatin
  • mix the gelatin and glycerin together, then add
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
Stir gently to avoid making bubbles. Let your gelatin harden overnight, or speed up the process in the refrigerator. If your plate breaks while you are using it, simply wash off any extra paint and pop the jello in your microwave for about one minute.  Allow it to harden before you use it again.  Because of the glycerin, these plates will last for months without refrigeration.

Happy Printing!
Mrs. Pasquan
